The iPhone Cometh ... To Vermont

Vermont and Alaska are the only two states without AT&T service and therefore, no iPhones. That is about to change.

AT&T announced today that they have acquired the Vermont holdings of Rural Cellular which in Vermont is branded as Unicel.

The storefronts will be changed over to AT&T within a few weeks and Vermonters can start buying iPhones. Then someday we'll get 3G.

Vermont, until now has been Verizon's stomping ground with Unicel playing second fiddle for a while. Unicel is not practical if you travel since their service is limited to the Northeast. THat may have changed but it's the reason I switched to Verizon 5 years ago. It will be interesting to see how much of a dent AT&T can make into Verizon's business here.

But I'm fine with my Crackberry and Verizon so I won't be jumping on the iPhone bandwagon any time soon.

A nice benefit is that AT&T plans to create 75 new jobs for this venture.

Here's an article from Vermont Business Magazine: AT&T MOBILITY HIRING FOR NEARLY 75 NEW JOBS IN VERMONT
