WS-FTP Pro Vista Update
|
Earlier this month, Ipswitch provided an update for WS-FTP Pro 2007 that runs smoothly on Vista. Now that I have two machines with Vista on them, I definitely grabbed the update because WS-FTP is one of those apps that I cannot live without. While making a multiple version leap to the 2006 version knocked my socks off with the improvements, the core of the changes for the 2007 version were for a host of security things that, while crucial to enterprises, didn't make a huge difference to me. (Admittedly, I didn't even understand what half of the technologies they were talking about referred to. But I have a feeling they are dreamy for system admins!) I am probably more of a target for their home user edition. The Pro has all kinds of automated backup, email and security features. But it makes me feel important to have the Pro version, even if I don't take advantage of all of those features. At this point, WS-FTP is such a solid, intelligent and user friendly app, I can't even imagine how they could improve on it any more. |

Ever try FileZilla? The interface is astoundingly powerful and intuitive (the entire Marketing department figured out how to use it on their own!) and the price is impossible to beat:

I was gonna mention FileZilla as well. I haven't used WSFTP in years because I like FileZilla so much better. I've also given up Adobe Reader in favor of FoxIt. Price, performance and small footprint.
