Are you familiar with the Visual Studio 2008 Training Kit?

This has been available for a while, but I have just woken up to this great resource. In one download available here you get a package filled with tons of PowerPoint presentations along with their demo scripts, Hands on Labs and demos.

There are way too many things to list but just to get an idea:there are 28 PowerPoint presentations, 20 of which have demo scripts and there are 21 Hands on Labs to walk through.

The presentation topics range from technical - what's new in VB and C#, ADO.NET Sync services, Card Spaces, Silverlight, WCF, WPF and more - to application lifecycle management.
The HOLs also have a wide variety from delving into the language enhancements to building web apps. ASP.NET AJAX apps, WPF apps and particulars such as doing databinding in WPF or using JSON and AJAX with WCF.

Hands on Labs are a great way to roll up your sleeves with a new technology.

There's so much in VS2008 that I still haven't explored since I have been so focused on a particular data access technology. So this will be a great way for me to finally do something hands on with Workflow or Unit Tests.

Be sure to check the prerequisites :

  • Microsoft Windows Vista
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2008
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (Express recommended)
  • Microsoft IIS 7 (All components)
  • Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2007 or the PowerPoint Viewer 2007 - Required to view the presentations
  • Windows PowerShell 1.0 RTM

I imagine that there are plenty of demos that do not require all of the above. You probably don't need IIS7 to see the new features in VB9!

Clinton Gallagher :

But who has actually installed it and was able to run any of the labs on Vista SP1? And how when all of the scripts fail?
