VS2010 & .NET 4 Beta Resources (forums, docs, etc.)
|
A number of people have asked me about resources for VS2010 & .NET 4.0. When Microsoft released the betas, they also created a set of new forums and documentation. A great starting place is the Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4 Beta 1 developer center. Here you'll find links to mostly all of Microsoft relevant resources including downloads related to VS2010 and .NET 4, forums and documentation. I'll highlight some of the most used resources. Forums Understand that not all of these forums are solely for VS2010/.NET. Most of those that are specific to the beta have an indication in the forum name or description. For example, Visual Studio Editor However, if you look at the VB forum, there's a message at the top that specifically says "For VS2010 questions, please us the tag VB2010". Surely the 14,000+ threads on this forum are not from the recent beta! On the other hand the EF Pre-Release forum does seem to have started with the beta.
Documentation
There are specific sections in the docs just for VS2010 and .NET 4 beta. When you are viewing documentation, note that the url for the new docs include "(VS.100)" in them. For example, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/w0x726c2(VS.100).aspx is the url for the .NET 4.0 documentation starting point. Don't miss:
I can't help but highlight the direct link to the EF4 documentation. :-) Start in the .NET Framework 4 Beta 1 section and drill in. This should get you started. Of course there are a ton of blog posts and articles and other content coming out on .NET 4/VS2010 outside of the MSDN resources. |

Hey Catto
Great to hear from you. Sorry you weren't able to be there live. The webcast was recorded. It's at https://www311.livemeeting.com/cc/mvp/view?id=P944ZT&pw=F8swp9%2CWR
Beware, Dave started recording while we were setting up, so you can easily skip the first 10 minutes or more. Although you will miss a funny joke. :-)
