Girl Geek Dinners popping up all over the world

Three years ago, Sarah Blow organized the first Girl Geek Dinner in London, England.

Since that first meeting, the idea has taken off and there are GGDs in many places around the world.

LondonGGD's September meeting marked their three year anniversary.

While each GGD has their own site, there is a central site as well at http://girlgeekdinners.com/.

Here you can find the ever growing list of GGDs. This is the current list, which I've copied and pasted site:

I know there's a new one in Boston, but I can't find it's link.

Because there are GGDs in some of the places I'm travelling to this fall & winter, I am actually scheduled to speak at three of them!

Coincidentally there's a GGD in Amsterdam where I will be next week, so I'll be spekaing on October 8th. My talk is titled "Staying Dry while Drinking from the Technology Firehose"

I'm also fortunate enough to be speaking along with researcher Dr Elisabeth Kelan at teh London Girl Geek Dinners meeting on October 9th meeting (which is the night after the Amsterdam event). My topic will be "Defining the -ette in Geekette" and Elisabeth will talk about " Innovation, Technology and Gender Stereotypes".

Another coincidence...I'm speaking on behalf of INETA at the CapArea.NET User Group on December 16th, so eagle eye Andrew Duthie hooked me up with the new Northern Virginia GGD where I'm now scheduled to speak on December 17th.

I'm really exited about these events for a number of reasons. One is that they are not Microsoft centric. I will get to meet women from many areas of technology. Another is that it is a really amazing experience to be in a room filled with so many women who have chosen the same not-always-so-easy path that merged with my life.
