Vista Update fixes some of my pet peeves

There are two new Vista updates under KB's 938979 and 938194.

As they are brand new, these have not yet propogated to the automatic WIndows Updates. Perhaps it's presumptuous of me to suggest that they will be part of the updates.

Perusing each KB articles list of improvements for the two updates, I noticed two fixes that spoke to me!

• When you copy or move a large file, the "estimated time remaining" takes a long time to be calculated and displayed.
• After you resume the computer from hibernation, the computer loses its default gateway address.

After installing the update on my desktop, I immediately started copying big, bigger and then huge (10GB+) files around and noticed that the annoying "calculating" screen that would hang around forever was gone and the smaller (1MB, 5MB) files copied quickly while the huge ones moved at a pace that was as I would expect. I also copied some 15MB files across an RDP session and that worked lickety split.

I have yet to apply the patches to my Vista laptop. That's where I experience the loss of my wireless connection when the box wakes up from hibernate mode. My trick is to turn the wifi off then back on again to get it to be able to connect to the wireless network. I'm hoping to see that problem go away as well.

[Update: My laptop now reconnects to the wireless seamlessly after waking up from hibernation. Yippee!]

Julia,

Whew, glad to hear I'm not the only one with the "wake up from hibernate/hybrid sleep and can't access the wireless network" problem. I thought maybe something in these packs would fix that, but no. Really really annoying. My desktop PC suffers no such problem.

Paul :

I have this Wi-Fi issue with Vista Bussinss. Except the update won't install. It says 'This update does not apply to your system.'
