Backing up data...

I know DevSource readers don't have to be told this. We're programmers, and we know better. But it's kind of scary to think just how many people out there don't realize the importance of backups. If you work for a company that's not on top of its backups, this could serve as a warning.

According to this article (and several others), a woman in Florida thought her job was in jeopardy (when it really wasn't) and she went in at midnight and deleted $12.5 million worth of files! This was a small architectural firm and they didn't have an IT department, nor did they have any backups. For me, and I'm sure all of you, just the thought of having only one copy of my files sends shudders down my back. Personally, I don't trust the computer enough to think that the data will be safe if there's only one copy.

So if you know people who don't back up regularly, show them this article. Pretty scary.
