Where to find Visual Studio and .NET 3.5 betas

In one of our recent news articles, we mentioned the latest betas for Visual Studio 2008 (previously called Orcas) and .NET 3.5 are available. (If you want to try out anything with LINQ you'll need these; LINQ isn't available with .NET 3.0.) Here's where you can find them:

Pre-release Software Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 Professional Edition

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Beta 2

Shortly I'll be downloading and reinstalling these (the ones I have are earlier releases) and I'll report back here to let you know if I run into any gotchas. (I suspect Visual Studio comes with .NET 3.5, so I'll download Visual Studio and install it first and let you know if you need to get .NET 3.5 separately.)

VS 2008 Beta 2 installs .NET Fx 3.5, as did Beta 1 and the June 2007 CTP. There are no gotchas that I know of if you install on a clean VM or remove Beta 1 or the CTP.

For LINQ changes between Beta 1 and 2 see LINQ Changes from Orcas Beta 1 to VS 2008 Beta 2

Cool, thanks for sharing this info!

To everyone else -- if you want to learn more about LINQ, be sure to check out the blog by the reader who just posted before me, Roger Jennings. It's at http://oakleafblog.blogspot.com/. It's excellent.
